What Is Dialysis?

Dialysis is a treatment that does some of the things done by healthy kidneys. It is needed when the kidneys can no longer take care of the body’s needs. Dialysis removes excess water, solutes, and toxins from the blood in people whose kidneys can no longer perform these functions naturally.

Who Needs Dialysis?

  • Acute Kidney Injury (AKI): Their kidneys are expected to regain function, but they need dialysis while recovering.
  • End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD): Chronic, irreversible loss of kidney function. Also known as Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Stage 5.

Home (SNF) Hemodialysis

  • A dialysis machine cleans your blood at home.
  • Treatments are 2.5 to 3 hours and are done 4-6 times a week.
  • Dialysis treatments are more frequent, which allows patients to be less strict
    with your meal plan.
  •  Treatment managed by patient and care partner
